Head inland and up a bit from Cape Town and you’ll find yourself in the magnificent surroundings of the Cape Winelands, home to South Africa's most celebrated wineries and world-class gastronomy. Considered by many to be some of the most scenic winelands in the world here, you'll be surrounded by mountains that create the perfect microclimates for grapes to grow. This is a region of pure indulgence.   

Easily done in a daytrip from Cape Town, the Winelands are centred around the charming towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, each a haven of fine food and wine. Here, touring picturesquely placed vineyards, (by the iconic wine tram in Franschhoek) eating and drinking are very much the order of the day but make sure, while you are out and about, to keep an eye out for the stark white of the old Cape Dutch manor house among the seas of green vines, and learn about the interesting history behind them.
